Hey, my name is Leo and I’m a student in high school, and while researching how to simulate animal vision with a camera came across this website. I’ve been putting in some hours to try to understand the process, but I first began with jumping straight into and downloading the program, which wasn’t a good strategy because I tried to upload images without calibrating anything or using a grey standard or a scale bar, or any of the other equipment, and it didn’t work. I am really really interested in this and determined to figure it out, and I would greatly appreciate any advice that anyone could give me that would help me through this process.
Thanks so much!
Hi Leo,
Wow, that is a pretty hardcore deep dive into animal vision tools! Right, I recommend you read through the original MICA toolbox paper and then the QCPA paper (See publications in the tab up to the top right). There, you will find a lot of references to the decades of research of many great people that these tools build on, which will help you gradually understand what the terms mean, what the theory behind things is, etc. Then, or in parallel, figuring out how the tools here actually work and how you can utilise them for your intentions is the next thing. We have tried to provide various tools, tips, videos, etc. to help with this process and, ultimately, it will come down to a lot of trial and error and redoing the same thing over and over until it clicks. To get a good understanding of these tools and the underlying theory and mechanics takes most students and researchers in the field many months or even years…
Cheers,
Cedric
